INFERTILITY AND THYROID DISORDERS
Infertility and miscarriage can be rooted in a thyroid gland that isn't functioning properly or an autoimmune thyroid disorder called Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Heavy menstrual cycles are also associated with hypothyroidism.
As noted in Drs. Frank and Lisa Lanzisera's book, "What's Wrong With My Thyroid?", it's important to know if your thyroid gland is producing adequate amounts of hormones and if these hormones are converted to their usable forms. It's equally important to know if the body's cells are able to take in these hormones or if there is resistance.

It’s vital for a woman, when preparing to have children, to be tested for two things: leaky gut syndrome and thyroid function. Testing for and correcting any dysfunctions prior to conception will be beneficial for the woman and her child. Estrogens stimulate maturation of the female reproductive system and development of the secondary sex characteristics. Progesterone works with estrogens in establishing the menstrual cycle. Earlier in this book we discussed how hypothyroidism can decrease the absorption of progesterone into the cells. This problem can contribute to heavy menstrual flow and iron deficiency anemia. Hypothyroidism has also been linked to miscarriages and infertility although this can also be related to an underlying autoimmune disorder.
